Franck Bernède is the founder and director of the Singhini Research Center, a Nepalese organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the music and dance of the Himalayas.Frank’s passion for diverse music comes out of his background and education as a cellist and ethnomusicologist.He holds a doctorate in social anthropology and ethnomusicology from the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris). He has also been an ISM Fellow in Sacred Music, Worship, and the Arts at the New Haven, Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
Franck Bernède has performed in most European countries as well as the United States, Japan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Taiwan. Based in Asia for about fifteen years, he has devoted the last five years in creating a department of Baroque music at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei, Taiwan. He has also researched the musical traditions of the central Himalayan bards along with the Newar music of the Kathmandu Valley.
